We’ve tried and tested them all so you don’t have to! We’ve landed on our favorite, and we’ll share why it’s the best for our jewelry.
The exact brand we use is linked above. It’s spectacular. Always cures with a crystal clear shine. We’ve included 5 things to know about UV resin below so you’ll be setup for success!
It Cures Hard, with a Glass-Like Finish
When we used epoxy resins for our jewelry, a lot of the time it cured soft. After a lot of research, we learned that because we were using such a small amount, it prevented the resin from reaching the heat temperature it needed to cure into a hard finish. With UV Resin, that’s not a problem.
YOU NEED A UV LIGHT TO CURE IT
We got a very simple nail salon UV light from Amazon and use it for all of our jewelry pieces. It saves time too, we pop a piece under the lamp for 5 minutes and it’s done! You can let it cure in sunlight, but we’ve found this is way quicker and helps us be more efficient during the day.
YOU CAN SET A BASE LAYER WITH YOUR FLORA IN IT
We set our flowers in a clear base layer before we put in additional sealant layers. If you put your flowers in all at once and fill the jewelry piece with resin, they tend to float and you won’t get a smooth finish on the top. We recommend putting little dots of resin in the mold or bezel, setting your flowers in and curing it under the lamp, and then adding in additional layers of resin as your heart desires.
KEEP IT IN A DARK PLACE
Since this resin cures with UV rays, we recommend storing it in the box it came in and then wrapping it in a dark material. We use some black fabric, but any kind will do-you’re just trying to prevent as much light exposure to the bottle as possible to make it last as long as you can.
ALWAYS PUT THE CAP BACK ON BETWEEN POURS
If you don’t, the light that can get in the spout will make your resin not last as long. No one wants that.
So that’s what we’ve got about our favorite resin. It’s fantastic. I don’t know what more we can say! You should try this one first if you’re looking to start resin jewelry.
